Popcorn Tins Jan09

Popcorn Tins

Dawn wrote in from her new life in Philly to teach us about popcorn. As far as I can tell, sosovelo began with three friends who liked cycling, loved laffing, and sort of knew how to use the internet. All came from very different backgrounds and were drawn to different aspects of bicycling culture. Yet this motley crew...

Catlike Helmets

I know I might sound naive in saying this, but when you order stuff online you don’t always get the thing you’re picturing while ordering. Like one time my friend Dar bought some “adorable” pots and pans from ebay, and they turned out to be adorable because they were American-Girl-Doll-sized. She was too embarrassed to return them and I’m pretty sure they still hang on a miniature rack near her real, non-adorable pots and pans that she actually cooks with. I went through this recently when purchasing a Catlike Helmet from the internet. I was obviously excited when the package arrived, but opened it only to discover that these helmets are nothing like cats at all! They’re just helmets! Giro-Like or...

Movie Club: Gingerde...

Gingerdead Man and Gingerdead Man II; The Passion of the Crust Double Feature! Gingerdead Man and Gingerdead Man II: The Passion of the Crust. Like most movies we watch in this club, I assumed that I would have to grit my teeth and just get through GDM I and II. I knew that these movies would involve a gummy, Gary Busey-voiced,...

Movie Club: Delicate...

So, a couple of weeks ago something strange happened: our bad movie club watched a good movie. It was weird. The movie was French and called Delicatessen and is probably actually a “film” and not a “movie”. Good movies are infinitely harder to write about than bad ones, so I’ll keep it short. The...

Movie Club: Space Bu...

After recently watching the film Beverly Hills Chihuahua with Cait, I found myself American Haunted by a preview we’d seen. The movie was called Space Buddies. A movie about a bunch of puppies who end up on a spaceship. So, with the bar set pretty low in our review club (no offense Sam and Emma), I felt confident in...

Movie Club: An Ameri...

A few weeks ago I received an invitation to join a movie reviewing club. The idea is that we all (Sam, his sister, some other people I don’t know, and I) watch the same movie and all review it on our respective blogs. Having recently read a rousing recap of Event Horizon by the tiniest reviewer, I decided that, a) this...

Ass-u-puncture

After a month of backaches and inactivity, the day I had been dreaming about finally arrived: My back started feeling normal. I played it safe and took it easy for a few days, but after no changes for the worse, I triumphantly decided to begin riding a bike again. I threw some cruiser bars and flat pedals on my mountain bike to...

Baby Got Back Problems Jul17

Baby Got Back Proble...

So, the other day I really messed up my back. I didn’t do it, as one would suppose, doing any of the many extreme sports I participate in. Nor did this injury occur during one of my many feats-of-strength moves: opening difficult jar lids, taking out the recycling, refilling and then reinstalling the water cooler bottle...

HR Challenge: Termin...

Most of the time I’m all talk. Cait, Joino, and I have started scads of businesses and movie scripts and dance contests – in theory – but we rarely follow through and actually bring any of these schemes into being. Well, last night we broke this chain of inaction and followed through with a plan: we watched...

2009 PIR Short Track

Even though I describe my off-road nature-riding as “mountain biking” with quote-fingers, to make it clear that I know that what I am doing can barely be referred to as such, the Short Track race series at PIR is, hands down, my favorite bicycle race. And that’s because it’s not really mountain biking....

Advice: Celebrate good times? Come on. Jun16

Advice: Celebrate go...

We recently received an unsolicited request for advice. Weird. I know. But the editorial staff discussed and agreed to answer. Because we’re obviously knowledgeable about all kinds of shit. Like boners. And Burt Reynolds movies. And… mostly boners and Burt Reynolds movies. But it’s a crime to keep it to...

Silverton/Rehearsal ...

As road season winds down, I am finding myself stumped on what to say about it. Early season races arrived with a multitude of joke potential, but at this point I can find little to report on except that I went to a race, rode in some physically taxing circles, and then went home and enjoyed an ice cream cone in a post race...
