Some of my old stomping grounds -- I know the Queen Creek area well. A great essay, Cait. Glad to hear how the trip is progressing. And as much as I love the desert, I adored the Biore pore strip analogy.

Nice anthropomorphizing, except since you added it after I read it it made me think there was a whole new installment, and I was first confused and then sad. Good luck, Trucker.

Thanks, guys! I promise to work on classier analogies for the next entry...

Michelle--I didn't get the postcard! I guess it didn't make it to the mail stop in time and now it's in postal limbo for eternity. Ack!

cait! i am thrilled to see that your hearty and not at all disconcerting obsession with biore pore strips made it in to both your emotional and physical landscapes. i remember wandering the aisles of fred meyer in vain, hoping to secure our own little pre-bike-tour-blackhead-bonding session. but seriously, on a brave and tender note, your writing this time around is really beautiful, funny and poignant. i am happy to see it, and always waiting expectantly for your next entry. if i could take any credit for your talent, i would say that i am proud of you. but since i cannot, i will say that i am just hella impressed. you're gonna take grad school by storm, i just know it. I MISS YOU. xoxoxo erf

Yes, I will admit that you seem to have picked up some wisdom somewhere, but my naturalist heart is still rebelling against your comparison of the Saguaro-studded foothills of Arizona with a Biore pore strip. Couldn't you have picked a more grandiose metaphor? Ah, Cait, keepin' it real. ;-) Love ya!
