Easton EC90 Aero Carbon Tubular Wheelset

I’ve got to get something off my chest. I’ve never ridden these wheels, these wheels I’m about to review. I have no experience with them, other than looking at them on other peoples bikes. I know a lot of review sites would frown upon reviewing a product they’ve never used. They’d throw around all sorts of fancy words and phrases like “unethical” or “tacky” or “you should be disbarred” or “I can’t believe I married into this family”. But these same people eat “arugula” and vote on “issues” and “invest” “responsibly”. These are not my people. I review products the same way I pick my presidents. With my gut. And this wheelset is a wheelset I could sit down and have a beer with.

So, with no actual ride time on these wheels, what exactly do I plan to talk about? I plan to review these wheels using a three tiered scale that rates aesthetics, non-ride feel, and gut reaction.

Aesthetics: These wheels look really fast. And my non-scientific analysis states that bikes with these wheels look over 238% faster.

Feel: I picked these wheels up when they were left in my basement. In the brief period of time between the owner going upstairs for a beer, and the owner coming back down the stairs and saying “I told you not to touch those because you are clumsy and untrustworthy”, I was able to get a pretty solid idea of what they felt like. They were light. And round. And felt like plastic. I can’t be sure, but I think this makes them a very good wheel.

Gut: My gut says I should spend $1500 on these wheels. My gut says that they will make me one of the fastest, if not THE fastest, bicyclist on the planet. My gut says that people will swarm and throw flowers and scream “ALLEZ!” as I pass. My gut says I will be greeted as a liberator.
